Kastelli, or else Kissamos is a beautiful city in a beautiful bay west of Chania.
Given the wealth and location, Kissamos was always prosperous, envied and therefore well fortified. The “Kissamos City” as mentioned by Ptolemy, is founded near the natural bay of Kissamos and the preserved (Venetian and Ottoman) ruins near Kastelli, the Venetian fortress. Indeed it was also named “Castel Chissamo” to distinguish it from the rest, as Crete had many castles.
